"SLEEP. A small group of scientists around the world are working on a new frontier in sleep research: Finding a biomarker or a way to test people for exhaustion. Studies on twins have shown that an ability to weather a night of poor sleep is genetic. Researchers are hoping that progress in this area could someday, far in the future, lead to the ability to give pilots or professional drivers a "breathalyzer" test to tell if they are too exhausted to be safely operating a plane or vehicle. For the average Joe, the research holds the promise of being able to know whether you are at risk for fatigue--the same way a doctor can tell you your risk for cholesterol or heart disease."
